The Great
Separation

Two teams at 5–1. Five teams at 3–3. Four playoff spots. And a schedule that could turn the standings into a demolition derby.
Taco logoGamblers logoPimps logoDawgs logoMonsters logo

Welcome to Week 7, where Crunchtime’s playoff race has officially become a crowded elevator with too many people and not nearly enough room.

Tacoman9000 and the GB Gamblers are sitting comfortably at 5–1, watching the rest of the league fight over the remaining real estate. Behind them, five teams are deadlocked at 3–3, separated by points, tiebreakers, and varying degrees of denial.

The Top Dawgs have scored more points than anyone in the league and somehow have three losses. The Scallywags have scored fewer points than anyone and somehow have three wins. The defending champion Midway Monsters are lurking. And Irish Pride, despite a 2–4 record, has scored more points than the 5–1 Gamblers.

If this sounds unfair, welcome to fantasy football. Please direct all complaints to the scheduling department, which is currently unavailable for comment.

This week features a Taco Curse, a decades-old pirate feud, a perfectly tied rivalry, a Packers quarterback reunion, and a defending champion facing a lineup that may have forgotten to check the NFL calendar.

THE TACO CURSE

Tacoman9000 logoTacoman9000

Can Ben finally beat Hector, or will the Taco Curse claim another victim?

There are plenty of things Ben has accomplished in Crunchtime. He’s built contenders, piled up points, and spent enough time near the top of the standings to know what a winning roster looks like. What he hasn’t done is beat Hector.

Taco Man owns a perfect 2–0 record against The Pimps, and now he’s arriving with a 5–1 record and a lineup projected to put some serious distance between them. The irony? These teams have scored almost the same number of points this season. Hector has simply been considerably better at collecting wins.

Matchup insight

The projections point to the receiving corps as the difference. Puka Nacua and Jaxon Smith-Njigba give Taco Man two dangerous weapons, while Trey McBride holds a sizable tight end advantage. Ben counters with Drake Maye, CeeDee Lamb, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jonathan Taylor, but needs several of those players to outperform expectations.

🎙 Clay Cooper’s Take

Taco Man has the better record and the stronger projection, but Ben has enough firepower to make this personal. The Pimps are tired of being the punchline in Hector’s taco commercials. Keep the salsa ready, because somebody’s getting roasted Sunday.

THE BLOOD FEUD

Warriors lead the series 25–12
⚔️ BEST GRUDGE MATCH
Scallywags logoScallywags
VS
Darque Warriors logoDarque Warriors

The pirates have 25 historical losses to avenge and an offense desperately searching for dry land.

Some rivalries are built on mutual respect. This one is built on 37 meetings and an alarming amount of evidence that Brad knows how to beat pirates.

The Darque Warriors have won 25 times against the Scallywags, a historical advantage so substantial that Mickey might want to check whether Brad has been reading the pirates’ playbook. Four straight weeks below 100 points, capped by a 56-point disaster, have left the Scallywags’ offense looking like a ship with three leaks and one bucket.

Yet here’s the twist: the pregame projections actually give the Scallywags a narrow advantage. Derrick Henry is a major reason, while Aaron Jones and Ollie Gordon provide useful FLEX production. Brad counters with C.J. Stroud, Chris Olave, and a stronger defense projection.

🎙 Clay Cooper’s Take

I’m leaning Scallywags, but only because the numbers say so. Mickey’s offense has been missing for a month, and Brad’s Warriors have made a career out of sinking this particular ship. If the pirates lose, somebody check the warranty on that treasure map.

THE DEADLOCK

⚖️ BEST HISTORICAL RIVALRY
Irish Pride logoIrish Pride
VS
GB Gamblers logoGB Gamblers

A perfectly tied lifetime series meets two teams with wildly different records.

Twenty-four meetings. Twelve victories apiece. If the Crunchtime schedule committee tried to invent a perfectly balanced rivalry, it couldn’t have done much better than Irish Pride versus the GB Gamblers.

Corey is sitting at 5–1, while Rich is stuck at 2–4 despite having scored more points this season. The Gamblers have somehow turned favorable matchups into a competitive advantage. Rich has turned bad luck into an unpaid second job. And Irish Pride has won the last three meetings between these two.

Matchup insight

Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy carry strong quarterback projections. Christian McCaffrey gives Rich an edge at running back, but the Gamblers are favored in several other spots, including the receiving corps and FLEX positions.

🎙 Clay Cooper’s Take

Corey has the record, Rich has the recent rivalry bragging rights, and both have a legitimate argument about who’s better. I like the Gamblers to end their three-game losing streak against Irish Pride. But if Rich makes it four straight, Corey may want to stop gambling and start reading the fine print.

THE QUARTERBACK TIME MACHINE

Jordan Love vs. Aaron Rodgers
📈 BIGGEST STATEMENT OPPORTUNITY
Top Dawgs logoTop Dawgs
VS
Joe Buck Yourself logoJoe Buck Yourself

The league’s highest-scoring offense needs to turn all that firepower into another victory.

Jordan Love versus Aaron Rodgers. The successor versus the predecessor. Green Bay’s present against its past. And two fantasy managers trying to figure out which direction their seasons are heading.

The Top Dawgs have scored more points than anyone in Crunchtime, which sounds impressive until you remember they’re only 3–3. They followed a spectacular 166-point eruption with a 71-point faceplant, a swing so violent the league may need to inspect their roster for loose wiring. Dennis, meanwhile, has Joe Buck Yourself heading in the opposite direction, with consecutive weeks over 100 points.

Matchup insight

Jahmyr Gibbs is projected as the highest-scoring starter in this matchup, while Drake London, Zay Flowers, and Brock Bowers give the Dawgs more favorable comparisons. Joe Buck has some capable players, but the projected lineup gap is substantial.

🎙 Clay Cooper’s Take

I’m taking the Dawgs, and it’s not especially close on paper. But after watching them go from a scoring explosion to a scoring disappearance in one week, I’m not calling anything a lock. If Rodgers outduels Love and Dennis pulls the upset, it’ll be the most entertaining Packers reunion since somebody mentioned Brett Favre at Thanksgiving.

THE DEFENDING CHAMPION’S OPPORTUNITY

Monsters lead the series 17–8
🚨 BIGGEST PREGAME EMERGENCY
Midway Monsters logoMidway Monsters
VS
Miami Jesters logoMiami Jesters

Three bye-week starters are a lineup problem, not a strategy.

The Midway Monsters have four Crunchtime championships. They’ve survived playoff pressure, championship showdowns, and just about every kind of fantasy football adversity imaginable. But even the defending champions probably didn’t expect Week 7 to arrive gift-wrapped.

The Miami Jesters are 1–5, and their lineup snapshot features three starters on bye: Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and James Cook III. That’s three positions producing the kind of Week 7 performance that requires absolutely no football equipment. That’s not a starting lineup. That’s an out-of-office message.

Matchup insight

Bijan Robinson leads a strong Monsters lineup that also includes Caleb Williams, Nico Collins, and Christian Watson. But the largest advantage isn’t about star power. It’s about having players who actually have games scheduled. Miami can reduce the deficit by replacing its bye-week starters.

🎙 Clay Cooper’s Take

I’m picking Midway, but I’m keeping an eye on the Jesters’ lineup. Three starters on bye is a dangerous way to challenge the defending champions. If Miami somehow wins without replacing them, we might need to rename the league Crunchtime Paranormal Activity.

Clay Cooper · The Final Whistle

Five games. Ten franchises.
Four playoff spots.

Week 7 could be remembered as the moment Crunchtime’s playoff picture began to take shape. Tacoman9000 and the Gamblers want to put distance between themselves and the pack. Five teams at 3–3 are fighting to escape the traffic jam. Irish Pride and Joe Buck Yourself are looking for a spark. And the defending champion Monsters are hoping their opponent remembers to leave three players on the bench.

Ben wants to end the Taco Curse. The Scallywags want revenge. Rich wants to remind Corey who has won their last three meetings. The Top Dawgs want to prove their explosive offense can actually produce a winning record. And Miami would probably settle for nine players with games on the schedule.

By the time the dust settles, some teams will have made a statement. Others will have made excuses. And at least one manager will be explaining how the projections were completely wrong, despite having enthusiastically quoted them three days earlier.

Welcome to Week 7 of Crunchtime. Where the rivalries are personal, the projections are only predictions, and the excuses are already warming up on the sidelines.
