WEEK 9 PREVIEW
By Clay Cooper — Crunchtime Fantasy Analyst
Five weeks to go. Four playoff spots. And nobody gets to hide anymore. The GB Gamblers lead the standings at 6–1–1, Taco Man 9000 has reclaimed the top spot in the power rankings, and the 4–4 Pimps are breathing down the necks of the current playoff field. Week 9 could begin to separate the contenders from the hopefuls.
The No. 1 CPI team faces the fourth-place Warriors in a matchup with major playoff implications. Taco Man has the stronger season-long scoring résumé, but the Warriors have a backfield built to produce a huge week.
Taco Man 9000
| QB | Matthew Stafford | 26.4 pts | |
| RB | D’Andre Swift | 12.9 pts | ✓✓ |
| WR1 | Jaxon Smith-Njigba | 16.5 pts | ✓✓ |
| WR2 | Matthew Golden | 10.1 pts | ✓ |
| TE | George Kittle | 10.3 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 1 | Puka Nacua | 15.4 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 2 | Chuba Hubbard | 14.0 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| K | Brandon Aubrey | 9.8 pts | ✓ |
| D/ST | Browns D/ST | 8.4 pts |
The newly restored No. 1 team in the power rankings attacks with Puka Nacua as a FLEX weapon alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba. That is a premium receiver deployed outside the regular WR slots. Chuba Hubbard supplies the second FLEX with a different route to points.
Bench options: Trey McBride, Garrett Wilson, Rhamondre Stevenson, Jake Ferguson.
Darque Warriors
| QB | Joe Burrow | 30.1 pts | ✓ |
| RB | Quinshon Judkins | 11.1 pts | |
| WR1 | Ja’Marr Chase | 13.7 pts | |
| WR2 | Chris Olave | 9.5 pts | |
| TE | Harold Fannin Jr. | 7.3 pts | |
| FLEX 1 | Ashton Jeanty | 9.3 pts | |
| FLEX 2 | Breece Hall | 8.7 pts | |
| K | Jason Myers | 9.1 pts | |
| D/ST | Seahawks D/ST | 8.7 pts |
Brad has loaded both FLEX positions with high-profile running backs, Ashton Jeanty and Breece Hall, behind Quinshon Judkins. Ja’Marr Chase and Chris Olave give the Warriors a dangerous WR tandem. This lineup has enough star power to challenge the top-ranked team.
Bench options: Rome Odunze, TreVeyon Henderson, Jordan Addison, C.J. Stroud.
Taco Man may sit atop the power rankings, but Clay has a theory: when Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase share a fantasy lineup, the football gods occasionally forget to enforce the salary cap. He’s betting on a Warriors eruption in a close one.
The Dawgs have been Crunchtime’s most reliable scorers, but the defending champions have a habit of staying relevant when the stakes rise.
Top Dawgs
| QB | Jared Goff | 28.1 pts | ✓✓ |
| RB | Jahmyr Gibbs | 21.4 pts | ✓✓ |
| WR1 | Drake London | 11.4 pts | ✓ |
| WR2 | Zay Flowers | 8.7 pts | |
| TE | Brock Bowers | 10.9 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 1 | Jadarian Price | 7.7 pts | |
| FLEX 2 | Rachaad White | 8.4 pts | |
| K | Evan McPherson | 8.0 pts | |
| D/ST | Jaguars D/ST | 8.2 pts |
Seven 100-point weeks make the Dawgs the league’s most dependable scoring operation. The intriguing call is a pair of running backs in the FLEX spots. That creates a volume-driven lineup, but also puts pressure on the passing game to supply the explosive plays.
Bench options: Carnell Tate, Jaylen Warren, Emmett Johnson, Jordan Love.
Midway Monsters
| QB | Caleb Williams | 24.3 pts | |
| RB | Bijan Robinson | 17.3 pts | |
| WR1 | Nico Collins | 10.3 pts | |
| WR2 | Christian Watson | 10.9 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| TE | Colston Loveland | 7.0 pts | |
| FLEX 1 | Bucky Irving | 13.2 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 2 | Jonah Coleman | 11.9 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| K | Jake Bates | 8.6 pts | ✓ |
| D/ST | Broncos D/ST | 9.4 pts | ✓ |
The defending champions are hovering at .500, exactly where nobody wants them lurking. Bijan Robinson leads the backfield, and Bucky Irving plus Jonah Coleman make this another two-RB FLEX formation. The Monsters need a complete performance against the league’s scoring leader.
Bench options: George Pickens, Jameson Williams, J.K. Dobbins, Hunter Henry.
The Monsters have four championship trophies and a perfectly respectable case. Clay has already shredded that case, mailed the pieces to Tim, and put a Top Dawgs bumper sticker on his car. He picks the Dawgs every week. It’s in his contract.
The Gamblers lead the standings, yet the Jesters have enough recognizable talent to make this uncomfortable. A loss would complicate the Gamblers’ push for a top seed.
Miami Jesters
| QB | Jayden Daniels | 25.2 pts | ✓ |
| RB | Tyler Allgeier | 8.6 pts | |
| WR1 | Justin Jefferson | 10.9 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| WR2 | DJ Moore | 8.3 pts | |
| TE | Tyler Warren | 7.3 pts | ✓ |
| FLEX 1 | James Cook III | 15.4 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 2 | Jordan Mason | 6.7 pts | |
| K | Tyler Bass | 8.4 pts | ✓ |
| D/ST | Giants D/ST | 8.0 pts |
The Jesters’ record has turned every remaining game into an uphill climb. Justin Jefferson offers the marquee receiving threat, while James Cook and Jordan Mason carry the FLEX responsibilities. An upset here would shake the playoff race.
Bench options: Jaylen Waddle, Mike Evans, Josh Downs, T.J. Hockenson.
GB Gamblers
| QB | Bo Nix | 22.0 pts | |
| RB | Kenneth Walker III | 17.3 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| WR1 | Tetairoa McMillan | 8.7 pts | |
| WR2 | Tee Higgins | 11.5 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| TE | Tucker Kraft | 6.6 pts | |
| FLEX 1 | Josh Jacobs | 12.0 pts | |
| FLEX 2 | Zach Charbonnet | 9.8 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| K | Chad Ryland | 7.4 pts | |
| D/ST | Lions D/ST | 9.1 pts | ✓ |
The Gamblers are winning the standings race even though their scoring average trails several contenders. Their FLEX approach doubles down on running backs with Josh Jacobs and Zach Charbonnet. The big question is whether that ground-game commitment delivers enough upside.
Bench options: Saquon Barkley, Rashee Rice, Kyle Pitts Sr., Michael Wilson.
Clay loves a good underdog story, but a 1–7 team against the standings leader is a little too much fairy tale even for him. He’ll take the Gamblers, though he insists on keeping the receipt until Monday night.
The Pimps sit just outside the current top four and can ill afford a stumble. Irish Pride needs wins immediately to keep its postseason hopes alive.
The Pimps
| QB | Drake Maye | 27.9 pts | |
| RB | Jonathan Taylor | 17.2 pts | ✓✓ |
| WR1 | Amon-Ra St. Brown | 12.5 pts | ✓✓ |
| WR2 | CeeDee Lamb | 12.8 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| TE | Sam LaPorta | 7.9 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 1 | Bhayshul Tuten | 12.2 pts | |
| FLEX 2 | Travis Kelce | 7.4 pts | |
| K | Cam Little | 8.3 pts | ✓ |
| D/ST | Bears D/ST | 8.5 pts |
The Pimps may have the most intimidating receiving core in the league, with Amon-Ra St. Brown and CeeDee Lamb. The FLEX configuration is particularly interesting: Bhayshul Tuten supplies running-back upside, while Travis Kelce gives Ben a second tight end alongside Sam LaPorta.
Bench options: David Montgomery, Dak Prescott, DK Metcalf, Kyle Monangai.
Irish Pride
| QB | Brock Purdy | 29.9 pts | ✓ |
| RB | Javonte Williams | 14.9 pts | |
| WR1 | Parker Washington | 10.4 pts | |
| WR2 | Treylon Burks | 7.1 pts | |
| TE | Dallas Goedert | 5.6 pts | |
| FLEX 1 | Christian McCaffrey | 18.1 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 2 | Cam Skattebo | 11.3 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| K | Chase McLaughlin | 7.6 pts | |
| D/ST | Bengals D/ST | 8.6 pts |
Rich has little room left for losses. Christian McCaffrey is deployed as a FLEX rather than the designated RB, alongside Cam Skattebo. Those two must carry a significant share of the scoring burden if Irish Pride is going to spring an upset.
Bench options: Josh Allen, DeVonta Smith, Jordyn Tyson, Samaje Perine.
The Pimps are favored by 1.2 points. Clay’s proprietary forecasting model has deducted 17 points because Ben once allegedly microwaved fish in the league draft room. The evidence is circumstantial. The pick is not. Irish Pride wins.
The Scallywags are 4–4 and still very much alive in the standings. JBY can make life difficult for McE while trying to keep its own narrow hopes alive.
Joe Buck Yourself
| QB | Trevor Lawrence | 27.2 pts | |
| RB | Kyren Williams | 14.4 pts | ✓ |
| WR1 | Malik Nabers | 10.8 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| WR2 | Luther Burden III | 9.1 pts | ✓✓ |
| TE | Isaiah Likely | 7.5 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 1 | Chase Brown | 12.0 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| FLEX 2 | Blake Corum | 7.6 pts | |
| K | Will Reichard | 8.7 pts | |
| D/ST | Rams D/ST | 7.3 pts |
Dennis has a roster capable of playing spoiler, but needs an immediate turnaround. Chase Brown and Blake Corum occupy the FLEX slots, with Kyren Williams already starting at RB. That makes JBY heavily dependent on the running game this week.
Bench options: Omarion Hampton, Tony Pollard, Juwan Johnson, Jalen Coker.
Scallywags
| QB | Patrick Mahomes | 27.3 pts | |
| RB | Derrick Henry | 12.6 pts | |
| WR1 | Ladd McConkey | 7.7 pts | |
| WR2 | Emeka Egbuka | 7.3 pts | |
| TE | Dalton Kincaid | 5.8 pts | |
| FLEX 1 | Aaron Jones Sr. | 7.7 pts | |
| FLEX 2 | Ollie Gordon II | 12.4 pts | ✓✓✓ |
| K | Spencer Shrader | 8.9 pts | |
| D/ST | Bills D/ST | 8.0 pts | ✓ |
McE has four victories despite the league’s lowest scoring average. Both FLEX spots go to running backs, with Aaron Jones and Ollie Gordon II tasked with providing stability. The Scallywags need those positions to contribute rather than merely fill the lineup.
Bench options: Deebo Samuel Sr., Kirk Cousins, Dylan Sampson, KC Concepcion.
This one is tight enough to flip a coin, so Clay did. The coin landed under his desk, where he found an old Tony Pollard benching receipt. That felt like a sign: Dennis finally gets a little lineup karma back.
THE PLAYOFF PICTURE
Based on the pre-Week 9 schedule simulation, Taco Man, the Gamblers and Top Dawgs are the three strongest playoff favorites. The Warriors and Pimps are fighting for position, while the Monsters and Scallywags need to capitalize on their opportunities. Those odds are model estimates, not official clinching determinations.
CLAY COOPER’S FINAL WORD
The time for talking about potential is ending. At this point in the season, a good roster needs to become a winning roster. And this week, the difference may come down to something that rarely gets the headline: which manager gets the most out of two FLEX spots.
